Why OSHA ITA Size Code 2 No Longer Works
Older files may use size code 2, but OSHA now expects the split size values for 20-99 and 100-249 employee establishments.
What this means
The old broad 20-249 employee category was split. If a reused CSV still contains the old code, the ITA can reject or misread the size field.
Why this happens
- A prior-year CSV was reused as a template.
- An older HR or EHS export still emits size code 2.
- The filer did not update size mapping after OSHA changed the categories.
How to fix it manually
- Confirm peak establishment employment for the filing year.
- Use the current OSHA 300A size codes, not the old size code 2.
- Update every establishment row in a multi-establishment file.
- Revalidate the file after updating the size field.
How ITAReady helps
ITA Ready detects old size code values and flags rows that need the current category.
