How to Fix EIN Format Errors in OSHA ITA Uploads
The EIN field is not a plain 9-digit value.
What this means
The ITA file contains an EIN value with dashes, spaces, missing digits, or other characters. OSHA CSV templates expect the electronic field value to match the required field format.
Why this happens
- The EIN was entered with a dash, such as 12-3456789.
- A leading zero was dropped by spreadsheet formatting.
- The EIN column includes blanks, spaces, or text labels.
- A company-level EIN was copied inconsistently across establishment rows.
How to fix it manually
- Remove dashes and spaces.
- Confirm the final value is exactly 9 digits.
- Check rows that may have lost a leading zero.
- Confirm the EIN is present for every required 300A row.
